Statement of Reasons

Failures to adhere to the Security Clearance Guidelines such as financial irresponsibility, prohibited foreign contacts, or criminal misconduct may result in a suspension of your clearance. This will typically include notice of the government’s intent to revoke your clearance by providing you a “Statement of Reasons” (SOR) wherein all of the specific reasons or concerns that the government has about your trustworthiness are provided in a detailed report. Once you have received an SOR, there is a limited amount of time within which you must respond to the allegations and either deny or admit that they occurred. This rebuttal to the SOR is an extremely important step in the defense of your clearance and career. A well-argued rebuttal can often lead to your clearance being quickly and favorably restored.
